Example Schedule of Daily Activities
Public (and private) events and special gatherings often happen at the last minute In Medjugorje. Because of the spontaneous nature of this community, it is not posible for us to provide you with an exact day-to-day itinerary. Instead, Our Lady Calls© works closely with our local guide and host family to prepare an itinerary on a daily basis so that our pilgrims do not miss a talk, apparition, or service. Each evening at dinner the next day's activities will be announced and posted. It is never mandatory for pilgrims to follow this itinerary, but it is always recommended. See below for an example of a typical Our Lady Calls© pilgrimage. This description is inteded to serve as a sample of what your pilgrimage could be like time and circumstances permitting. It is not an exact day-to-day itinerary of your actual pilgrimage.
DAY 1 You have heard Our Lady calling and today you and other pilgrims from around the United States are boarding non stop flights to your gateway city in Europe. Dinner and breakfast will be served en route during the overnight journey.
DAY 2 You arrive in Frankfurt where you will be welcomed by Denise Hagerty, your Our Lady Calls© escort. From the gateway cityt we fly together as a group to one of three gateway cities in Croatia (Split, Dubrovnik, or Sarajevo). From Croatia our group travels together by private motor coach along one of the most beautiful stretches of the Adriatic coast. The stunning scenery of quaint villages, rich vegetation, breathtaking vistas, uninhabited islands, white pebble beaches, crystal clear water make this region unforgettable. Onward through the Bosnian countryside we come ever nearer to our destination. Finally, we arrive in Medjugorje - just in time for a rest, dinner, the evening rosary, and the spiritually uplifting Croatian Mass and evening program at St. James Church, (a short five minute walk from our pansion).
DAY 3-10 You will meet pilgrims from around the world and enjoy unique cultural encounters while experiencing all that Medjugorje has to offer. You will have the freedom to explore Medjugorje at your own pace or you may choose to participate in the daily scheduled activities.
Pilgrimage Highlights
- During our daily gatherings for breakfast and dinner we sing and pray the abreviated office found in the Magnificat - (a free copy is given to all of our pilgrims).
- We attend the daily 10:00 a.m. English Mass at St. James Church and participate in the evening Croatian prayer program.
- If we are in Medjguorje on the 2nd of the month we will attend a public apparition with the visionary Mirjana Dragicevic-Soldo. This part of our program is always contingent on whether or not the pilgrims in Medjguorje are invited by Mirjana to attend.
- Our guide will lead us on a prayerful climb up both Mt. Krezevac (Cross Mountain) and Podbrodo (Apparition Hill). Do not worry if the climb will be too physically demanding. Your Our Lady Calls© escort or the chaplain will lead the Stations of the Cross at the statue of the Risen Christ during the group's climb up Mt. Krezevac for anyone who has physical limitations. The rosary will be prayed at the foot of the hill during the group's climb up Podbrodo.
- We will attend talks given by local Franciscan priests and visiting speakers.
- We will attend a private or semi-private prayer session and talk hosted by Sr. Emmanuel Maillard in her private garden.
- We coordinate and host a private memorial Mass and prayer service for our pilgrims that usually takes place in the chapel at Mother's Village.
- We will visit the Cenacolo Community and listen to moving witnesses of change and hope from their residents.
- Our Chaplain will lead a healing service for all and administer the Sacrament of the Sick to those in need.
- When requested, our chaplain will renew wedding vows for our pilgrims.
- One evening we will come together for a candle lighting service at the small grotto outside of the Church of St. James.
- There will be time for organized shared prayer and scripture as well as time for private, contemplative prayer.
- You will have the opportunity to pray before the Lord at Eucharistic Adoration, attend Veneration of the Cross, go to confession, visit the grave of Fr. Slavko Barbaric, walk through the village to take in the local beauty, and rest and relax in the peace that is Medjugorje!
- One evening our group will enjoy a fun Our Lady Calls© tradition: an ice cream sundae celebration at Victor's restaurant.
- Many groups ask us to coordinate an optional side trip to the beautiful, medieval walled city of Dubrovnik, Croatia. The additional cost of this trip is approximately $60. We will hire a a local guide in Dubrovnik who will lead a tour inside the walls of the Old City. Typically, we arrange for our chaplain to celebrate Mass and bless our throats in the Church of St. Blaise.
DAY 11 After an early breakfast and farewell to our hosts, the Our Lady Calls© group will depart by private motor coach for our gateway city in Croatia where we will catch our return flights home. Leaving the peace and tranquility of Medjugorje to return home will be bittersweet. You will say goodbye to your newfound brothers and sisters in Christ but you will return with a renewed heart and the many graces and blessings of this little piece of heaven on earth!
What is a pilgrimage?
A pilgrimage is a physical journey through which we deepen and strengthen our personal relationships with Our Lord, Jesus Christ. Our Lady Calls© pilgrimages are structured with an emphasis on spirituality, prayer, and community in order to aid you in spiritual growth and renewal.
